The further development of municipal buildings and infrastructure is among Mirja Montag’s core responsibilities. In her role as Operations Manager for the City of Wuppertal’s Building Management, she is responsible for the planning, delivery and operation of public buildings, with a particular focus on future-ready educational buildings.

Under the title “From industrial site to learning landscape”, Mirja Montag, Operations Manager for the City of Wuppertal’s Building Management, shows how a modern learning landscape is being created on the site and in the building of the former Oeilletsfabrik Zinn, Engels & Co. for the city’s seventh comprehensive school. The focus is on the specific challenges and opportunities of the adaptive reuse of an existing building shaped by its industrial past, as well as the implementation of an innovative pedagogical concept. The lecture provides insights into the planning and delivery of the school project by a design-and-build contractor and shows how a former industrial site can become a future-oriented place of education.
