School, Children and Family Center, Sports, and Adult Education under one roof

A multi-purpose educational building

In the NeckarPark Educational Building, Stuttgart combines school, childcare, sports, and adult education into a compact complex with an educational mission.

In July 2021, the state capital Stuttgart commissioned Wolff & Müller as general contractor for the turnkey construction of the NeckarPark Educational Building in the new NeckarPark urban district in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. The building houses a four-stream full-day primary school, a children and family center with seven groups for children aged 0 to 6, a two-court sports hall with 136 seats, and the Bad Cannstatt adult education center (Volkshochschule Stuttgart).

Flexible Use in a Growing District

Due to delayed construction developments, school operations initially started on a reduced scale, with the Helene-Schoettle School temporarily using spaces on the third floor during the transitional phase.

Architecture Connects All Uses

A continuous “educational thoroughfare” is the central spatial element, linking all uses, serving as orientation and a common area.

Urbanistically, the educational building is divided into three structures: the school and children and family center in the north, the adult education center building in the south, and the single-story sports hall in between. The U-shaped arrangement opens up a shared inner courtyard. The project sets new standards with its construction: the upper floors were realized in timber-hybrid construction above a reinforced concrete base. The green timber facade with surrounding arcades defines the appearance and provides pedagogically usable access areas with a high quality of stay for all user groups.
