How should schools in Saxony be built in the future? Which spatial concepts promote learning and community? These questions are at the heart of SCHULBAU Salon & Messe Leipzig 2025, where experts from education, architecture, and administration will exchange ideas on the needs analysis for school construction in Saxony. Particular attention will be given to aesthetic education through spatiality—a topic that Juliane Baron, principal of Marie-Curie-Schule Leipzig, advocates with great passion.

Juliane Baron, a trained mathematician and musicologist, has an exceptional career path. After teaching at Christliches Spalatin-Gymnasium Altenburg, she assumed leadership of Marie-Curie-Schule Leipzig in 2021—a school under development that currently serves around 600 students and 40 teachers. The long-term goal: a vibrant educational institution for up to 1,200 learners and 120 educators.

Her vision? Schools as places of diversity and community. This is reflected in her work on concepts for open learning spaces, individualized support, movement, and digitalization. Decision-making structures are developed participatively, allowing the school to grow as a social space—an approach of central importance in school construction planning.

Identifying Needs—and Implementing Them

School construction in Saxony faces major challenges: rising student numbers, maintenance backlogs, and the need to design spaces that are more flexible and adaptable. Together with Jost Fohmann (Saxon State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs), Dirk Fellendorf (fellendorf GmbH), and Kirsten Jung (SCHULBAU Messe), Juliane Baron discusses current needs and possible implementations.

The focus is on future-oriented school construction planning that unites architectural quality, pedagogical concepts, and practical requirements. What does a school building need to optimally support learning processes? How can spaces be used intelligently? And what role does aesthetics play in educational success?

These questions will be discussed at SCHULBAU Salon & Messe in Leipzig 2025 with professionals from architecture, construction, and administration. An opportunity to learn from one another, network—and help shape the educational spaces of the future.
