Leipzig Program

tuesday, 15 april, 2025

Opening hours from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm

Blue hour from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Main topics:

Multifunctionality and multiple use of schools in the neighbourhood – This thematic focus sheds light on how school buildings can be designed as multifunctional spaces that serve as community centres in the neighbourhood beyond just teaching. In addition to the school, they offer space for leisure activities, cultural events and social projects. In this way, schools become open meeting places that enrich the neighbourhood, use resources efficiently and promote a stronger bond between school and neighbourhood.

Inclusion – This focus is dedicated to designing inclusive learning environments in which all students, regardless of physical, mental or social conditions, are equally supported and integrated. This involves barrier-free architecture, flexible room concepts and special support services that enable participation and equal opportunities. Inclusion creates an appreciative atmosphere and promotes a sense of togetherness by experiencing diversity as a strength and enabling joint learning.

In view of the legal entitlement to all-day support for primary school children from 2026/2027, many are wondering how high-quality all-day education can be realised with the same area. This is where the “All-Day and Space” project comes in: The Montag Foundation Youth and Society is developing concepts for integrated use at five locations selected throughout Germany. The focus is on teamwork, child-friendly rhythm, adapted furniture and fire protection in order to dovetail morning and afternoon pedagogically, organizationally and spatially. The project shows how all-day education is possible without new construction or extension.

Opening hours from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Excursion 16:00 to 18:00

Open space planning schools and climate protection:

This thematic focus deals with the climate- and environmentally-friendly design of the outdoor areas of schools. The aim is to plan open spaces in such a way that they contribute to improving the microclimate and offer pupils natural learning and recreation spaces. Green roofs, school gardens, rainwater management and shady planting can contribute to climate adaptation and make sustainable educational content directly tangible. In this way, school open spaces become lively, ecologically valuable places that raise awareness of climate protection.

School construction and educational infrastructure – lectures on the creation of modern educational spaces, state funding programmes and sustainable open space design.

Practical examples and excursion – presentations of school construction projects and an excursion to the Marie Curie School in Leipzig.

Landscape architecture – is more than the planting of trees and shrubs, landscape architecture is the design and structuring of public and private spaces. The shaping of the undeveloped environment that surrounds us every day and almost everywhere and in the middle of which we find ourselves. Ideally, we experience them as comfortable, as an incentive to activity or rest.
Against this background, we see ourselves not only as independent designers, but also as a service provider for everyone who moves around in these spaces.
