The Senior Consultant in the Department of Children and Youth Work of the City of Copenhagen is responsible as the technical coordinator for the development of functional programs and requirement specifications. In particular, she is also responsible for the pedagogical aspects related to the planning and construction of schools and daycare centers. Through her many years of experience in the design and development of learning spaces, she has gained many practical and didactic insights that she applies in her daily work. Furthermore, she looks back on twenty years of teaching practice, most recently as an associate professor in the field of sports, with contributions to the didactic field and new forms of teaching. Here, she was also able to develop publications and presentations on the interrelationships between learning, space, and movement as a decisive element that should be considered in all learning contexts.

Presentation Topic

The presentation “On the Construction of Schools in Copenhagen, Whose Architecture Supports Pedagogy” benefits from Mette Rose Eriksen’s strong connection between pedagogical theory, practical school development, and many years of teaching experience. She can vividly explain how pedagogical concepts are translated into architecture as early as the initial planning phases. Her perspective on learning spaces as active co-creators of education is particularly exciting: in the presentation, she will demonstrate how flexible spaces, movement zones, and open learning landscapes support new forms of instruction and positively influence learning. Through this presentation, you will not only develop architectural ideas but also recognize how modern educational spaces promote concentration, collaboration, movement, and well-being, and why spatial design should be understood today as a central component of contemporary pedagogy. In her descriptions, vision meets tangible projects. Take advantage of this unique opportunity in Copenhagen to further develop your own ideas and projects with the speaker and other participants.
