Lernplatte – From GDR Standardized Building to Learning Landscape
What lies within a school that seems to have long been outdated? For Leonora Schlüter, the GDR standardized building is a space of possibilities. At SCHULBAU Berlin, the interior designer demonstrates how rigid structures can be transformed into open, flexible learning and living spaces.
Her lecture “Lernplatte – From Standardized Building to Learning Landscape” is based on her multi-award-winning master’s thesis. Using the example of a GDR panel building school of the “Erfurt” type from 1980, she investigates how existing buildings can be adapted to current pedagogical and spatial requirements through targeted interventions. The focus is on a school that offers more than just knowledge transfer: a space for encounter, collaborative learning, and social development.
The Speaker
