Façade Engineering Award 2026
As part of the SCHULBAU Festival, innovative façade solutions that harmonize energy efficiency, material strategy, and architectural quality will be honored on November 11, 2026, in Berlin.

Objective of the Award
The Façade Engineering Award recognizes building envelopes that make a measurable contribution to reducing energy requirements and CO₂ emissions while being durable, low-maintenance, and aesthetically compelling.
Eligibility
The following are eligible:
- Completed or planned projects
- Submissions from architectural firms, façade planners, structural engineers, and manufacturers
- Projects in school and educational construction
Documents to be Submitted
- Façade concept (technical and design)
- Information on U-values, energy performance, and daylight
- Material description including origin and recycled content
- Information on maintenance, service life, and replaceability
- Plans, details, photos, or visualizations
- Supplementary: Life cycle assessment or comparable evidence
Evaluation Criteria
1. Energy Performance (25%)
- U-value in the target range of 0.12–0.18 W/m²K
- Optimized ratio of daylight and thermal insulation
- Effective summer heat protection
2. Contribution to CO₂ Reduction (20%)
- Reduction of energy requirements during operation
- Contribution to the overall balance of the building
3. Material & Construction (20%)
- Low embodied energy
- Recyclability and ease of dismantling
- Durable constructions
4. Functional Quality (15%)
- Robustness and low maintenance
- Constructive clarity
- Suitability for daily operation
5. Integration of Renewable Energies (10%)
- Integration of photovoltaics or hybrid systems
6. Architectural Quality (10%)
- Design integration into the overall building
- Contribution to spatial quality
Minimum Requirements
Projects without the following are excluded:
- Verifiable technical specifications
- Coherent façade concept

- Special Prize for Energy Efficiency
- Special Prize for Material & Construction
Jury
The jury brings together experts from façade engineering, architecture, and building physics, including representatives from the Association for Façade Engineering.
Award Ceremony
The award ceremony will take place on November 11, 2026, in Berlin as part of the SCHULBAU Festival.
