Architecture Trip Copenhagen 2025: Experience educational construction, understand school architecture, shape the future

Space for the Future: Architecture Trip to Copenhagen with a focus on educational construction

Cities worldwide are under pressure to create new educational spaces that are far more than functional shells. The question of how schools can be understood as a vibrant part of urban development is being discussed internationally – especially in Denmark, where architecture and pedagogy have long been considered together. In June 2025, SCHULBAU is offering a four-day architecture trip to Copenhagen, providing the opportunity to explore these very questions on-site.

Between Nordhavn and Øresund: Educational spaces as urban catalysts

From June 1 to 4, 2025, the SCHULBAU Architecture Trip invites participants to an intensive exchange between German and Danish stakeholders in educational construction. The program leads to three outstanding projects, each representing an independent approach to learning architectures: the Nordøstamager Skole by Kjær & Richter, the Helsingør Skole with autens founder Lene Jensby Lange, and the multi-award-winning M/S Maritime Museum, designed by the renowned Bjarke Ingels Group under Frederik Lyng.

Each location will be explored in a personal guided tour with the planners – a rare format that provides detailed insights into design ideas, usage processes, and pedagogical perspectives. The route is deliberately designed to address different scales: from the internal organization of learning spaces to urban integration and questions of participatory school development.

Food for Thought at the SCHULBAU Think Tank

The highlight of the trip is our SCHULBAU Think Tank on June 3, 2025, in Copenhagen. International speakers such as architect and urban planner Jan Gehl or journalist and activist Signe Wenneberg will provide impulses on architecture, urban society, and sustainability in educational construction. In moderated workshops, topics such as inclusion, spatial quality, and hybrid learning environments will be explored – always with a view to transferable models for the German-speaking region.

The Think Tank is not only a source of inspiration but also a platform for encounter: in an open atmosphere, new contacts are made, project ideas are conceived, and professional alliances are formed – between architects, education officials, local government representatives, and product developers.

Copenhagen as a Real-World Laboratory for European Education Policy

Copenhagen is no accidental destination for this excursion. The Danish capital is internationally regarded as a pioneer in sustainable urban development, social mixing, and architectural quality. Schools here are part of a comprehensive understanding of the city – open, accessible, and networked. This attitude shapes the architecture as much as the planning processes.

Anyone wishing to rethink educational spaces will find inspiration in Copenhagen – and, above all, the opportunity to work together on solutions across national borders.
