The special education teacher is not only a member of the Haderslev municipal council—where she serves as deputy chair of the Committee for Social Affairs—she is also a member of the Committee for Children and Family and a board member of Vojens Hallerne. She is also deputy chair of the Disability Council, chair of the school board of Moltrup School, and a mother of four. With her project “Skakkens Hus”, she also promotes, through an exciting school chess initiative, not only chess itself but also the mental fitness of children and young people.
Presentation Topic
Lene Bierbaum’s talk also focuses entirely on “Skakkens Hus”. She presents the background to the project, its content, and in particular the goals it pursues. Described as a “gym for the brain”, the project stands for the mental training and development of those who engage with it. Added to this is the social training aspect that arises from playing chess together, and of course the chess training itself. You can find out exactly how all of this works in Copenhagen!
