The planned new construction of the Gymnasium Rondorf is facing delays. Originally, the school was scheduled to move from its current interim location in Rodenkirchen to the Rondorf Nordwest development area in 2029. However, according to the administration, previous planning has stalled due to unresolved financing issues. Contract negotiations have also not yet been concluded. A decision on whether and when the project will be continued is still pending.
The Gymnasium Rondorf is currently housed in a temporary building on Eygelshovener Straße. These provisional buildings were intended as an interim solution until the new construction is completed. The city had previously planned additional modular buildings to meet the school’s growing space requirements.
Impact on the Gymnasium Rodenkirchen
The delays in the new construction also affect the Gymnasium Rodenkirchen, where urgently needed renovation work is pending. It was originally intended that the interim solution for the Gymnasium Rondorf would later be used for relocation during the renovation.
According to the administration, if further delays occur, the current location of the Gymnasium Rondorf will not be sufficient to accommodate additional year groups. Furthermore, the existing building permit for the interim site expires in 2030.
Politicians demand clarity
The Rodenkirchen district council is calling for further talks with the relevant city authorities, the schools, and the companies involved. The aim is to obtain a reliable schedule for the new construction of the Gymnasium Rondorf and the subsequent steps for the Gymnasium Rodenkirchen.
